Eat Fresh on Hot Days
There’s no getting around the fact that this summer has been a hot one so far. With temperatures hovering around 90̊ cooking a hot meal can seem more exhausting than anything else. When the heat really starts to rise, we here at the wannaB really enjoy a lot of fresh produce. Crisp vegetables, ripe fruits, all mixed together in a big bowl with a light vinaigrette? Our mouths are watering just thinking about it. Plus, when the meal is light and refreshing, you won’t feel bogged down the way you might after a heavy lunch or dinner, so you’re free to get out and enjoy some activity in the sun. Now you’re thinking, “that’s great, but where are we going to find fresh produce around here?” Lucky for you, we know the area well, and we’ve got just the place. The Punta Gorda Farmer’s Market is open every Saturday and has more fruit and veggies than you can shake a stick at. One trip to this brilliant bazar and you’ll see exactly what we mean.
The Punta Gorda Farmer’s market kicks off early at 8:00 am every Saturday and runs until 1:00 pm. Just in time to bring your haul back to the wannaB and whip up a delicious lunch. Located just a 45-minute drive from the resort, on Taylor St. in Downtown Punta Gorda, it’s the perfect thing to make a morning out of. And it might just take the whole morning to browse the wide selection offered by the various vendors.
A Variety of Vendors
The Punta Gorda Farmer’s Market is no joke. With over 50 regular vendors in attendance each week, you’re bound to find something to make your next meal shine! We love checking out what Merlin’s Plants has grown, satisfying our sweet tooth at Sugar Island Cupcakes, grabbing something for a light snack at Dynasty Guacamole, and topping it all off with some fresh baked goods from OL’TIME German Bakery. Not hungry? Plenty of clothiers, jewelers and wellness specialists set up shop at the Farmer’s Market each week as well. There’s even something for your fur-ever friends, with homemade pet treats from Woof n’ Purr. To peruse a full list of what can be regularly found at the Farmer’s Market, click HERE.
Voted the best small market in Florida and 15th in the entire USA, the Punta Gorda Farmer’s Market will not disappoint. Not to mention, you can feel good about spending some time supporting Florida grown produce and local Florida businesses. There’s nothing like tasting a creation of your own put together by some delicious and fresh ingredients. So, head on down to the Punta Gorda Farmer’s Market to see what we’re talking about. We think you’ll find just the thing to prepare a refreshing meal for those hot summer days ahead.
Now that another hot summer is officially underway, and July is just beginning, it’s time to think about Independence Day! We’re not talking Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum staving off alien invaders, we’re talking back yard barbecues, cold drinks, and some fireworks to finish off the night! July fourth is the best day of the year to celebrate being a part of the United States of America, and there’s no better place to do that than at the wannaB inn. There’s plenty to do, and lots of fun to be had around the resort, so let us give you a hand if you’re looking to make this Fourth of July a truly memorable one.
Barbecue on the Beach
The famous 900 feet of Gulf of Mexico facing beachfront at the wannaB is stunning to look at on its own. You could almost make your entire Fourth of July by just hanging out, relaxing with the family, playing some catch or tossing the ol’ pig skin around. Did you know that we’ve also got barbecues available for you to use as well? It’s true! Bring out the burgers when you head down to the beach, because nothing says ‘Independence Day’ like a good old-fashioned barbecue. Our charcoal grills are just the thing to take your day at the beach and kick it up a notch American style. Just don’t forget to bring your coolers, chairs, and whatever else you pack for the beach back to your room with you when you’re finished. We wouldn’t want to ruin the Fourth of July for our friends the Sea Turtles.
Hot Dog, That’s Good!
Maybe you don’t feel like cooking, and why should you? You’re on vacation! No need to worry, there are plenty of local spots around the resort to grab some grub or down some drinks. We can’t think of anything more American than a nice, juicy hot dog though, and it just so happens that hot dogs are Mad Dogs Hot Dogs specialty.
Located in Venice, Florida, just a twenty-minute drive from the wannaB, Mad Dogs offers an entire menu dedicated to the hot dog aficionado. Take a hot dog tour around America with a New Jersey Ripper Fried Dog, a New York Style Dog, or an authentic Chicago Vienna Dog. Heck, it’s Independence Day…why not get all three?
Fireworks on the Fourth
Just make sure you don’t fill up so much that you miss out on the Lemon Bay Rotary Club’s annual Fourth of July fireworks. Not only are we a sponsor of the event, we look forward to the show every year. It doesn’t feel like the Fourth of July until the sky is lit up with a beautiful display of lights and colors. The fireworks show will be held at 9:00 PM on Blind Pass Beach, located on Manasota Key Road, a quick eleven-minute drive from the wannaB. Finish off your Fourth of July celebrations with a bang by bringing the whole family to Blind Pass to enjoy the Lemon Bay Rotary Club’s fireworks display. For more information, click HERE.
No matter what you find yourself doing on Independence Day, the important thing is that you have fun. If you need a few more suggestions, don’t be afraid to ask our lovely and helpful staff…no one knows more about the area surrounding the wannaB than they do. Have a great Independence Day everybody! Here’s to 242 more!
On behalf of the wannaB inn, we would like to wish all of the Dad’s out there a very Happy Father’s Day!
At the wannaB, we know that there is no better way to celebrate Father’s Day than to get out and spend some quality time with the big guy. So, if you’re looking for some ideas for what to do this weekend, here are some of our favorites:
Going to the Beach
With 900 feet of pristine beach at the wannaB, we love to spend time basking in the sunshine, listening the waves. So why not grab Dad and hit the sand for the day? While you’re there you can search for shells or sharks’ teeth, toss around the football, build sand castles, or splash around in the water. There is no shortage of things to do at the beach.
It’s no secret that we are partial to fishing, and we couldn’t think of many better ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Whether you’re out in the boat or trying your luck from the docks or the shore, there are plenty of options for you. Our only suggestion is if Dad tells everyone he caught the biggest fish of the day … maybe let him have that one, just for the day.
Catching a Ball Game
Baseball is a time-honored past-time in Charlotte County, and we think it would be a great idea to treat Dad to a ball game. Admittedly, the local Charlotte Stone Crabs won’t be playing a home game until Monday, June 18 when they host the Lakeland Flying Tigers so, if you can put off your celebrations for a few days this would be a great alternative.
Stump Pass State Park
At the end of Manasota Key is the beautiful Stump Pass State Park. If your Dad loves to get outside and enjoy nature, then this is the perfect solution for you. In addition to the secluded beach, Stump Pass features a hiking trail that passes through five distinct natural communities that provide homes for many species of wildlife. While at the park, keep an eye out for manatees, tortoises, egrets, terns, and much more!
Regardless of what you choose to do to celebrate Father’s Day, we hope that you and the whole family have a great day. Happy Father’s Day!
Thursday, June 21, 2018 is World Music Day, a day to celebrate music in all its forms and its impact on the world and the human spirit! In honor of World Music Day, we’ve put together a list of our favorite music venues in the area, where you can go to listen and enjoy!
Englewood Event Center (EEC)
This fantastic venue features an 800 seat performing arts hall and is located on South McCall Road, just a short 10 minute drive from the wannaB inn. Over the years, the EEC has hosted a wide variety of performances from big name artists to local performers and cover bands. Regardless of what musical genre you prefer, the ECC will have something for you.

SandBar Tiki and Grille
Located just a mile from the wannaB inn, the SandBar Tiki & Grille offers live entertainment all day on their outdoor stage. If you’re just looking to enjoy a beautiful day on the patio while listening to some great jams, then the SandBar Tiki & Grille is the spot for you.
We’ve mentioned the music at Mango Bistro before, and without a doubt, it’s one of our favorite spots for music and food. From bluegrass, jazz, and classical guitar, there is something for everyone every Friday and Saturday nights.
Englewoods on Dearborn
This restaurant and bar is a recipient of the Best Live Music award by the Englewood Choice Awards. The bar features a variety of performances throughout the week showcasing local blues, rock, and pop artists playing both covers and original music. You can find Englewoods on Dearborn at 362 West Dearborn St., about 5 miles from the resort.
We encourage you to celebrate World Music Day in style this year! Check out any of these destinations to satisfy your musical cravings. Do you have a favorite spot that we missed? Let us know, we always want to hear about great local spots in our area.
“You're gonna fly away, glad your goin' my way; I love it when we're cruising together; the music is played for love, cruising is made for love; I love it when we're cruising together.” (Smokey Robinson – Cruisin’) That’s right, the first Saturday of June is almost here, and that means the return of one of the coolest local events around the wannaB, Cruisin’ On Dearborn! If you’re into classic cars, then bring the family down to historic Dearborn street and admire some of the best looking antique autos around!
Where and When
Cruisin’ On Dearborn takes place on the first Saturday of every month and has quickly become one of our guests’ favorite events around the resort. Happening just a ten-minute drive from the wannaB, Cruisin’ On Dearborn is the perfect Saturday activity to bring the whole family to. Share your love of these jalopies with your kids, over a day-long event where hundreds of cars and thousands of car lovers will converge – all to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of a bygone era.
Lots To Do
The cars aren’t the only thing to appreciate while you find yourself on Dearborn St. though. Dearborn happens to house some of our favorite restaurants and eateries, so if you need to stop for a bite, you won’t come up short for choices. Stop into the Mango Bistro for a cup of coffee, head by Comadre’s for some delicious Mexican cuisine, or finish off your night at Englewoods on Dearborn for a quick drink and some pub fare. There’s truly no shortage of delicious food options for the family to enjoy when they’re spending a day on Dearborn. But how about some entertainment?
Live music is just the thing to inject some excitement into any event, and Cruisin’ On Dearborn has this covered. Not only are there nearly endless cars for you to salivate over, the event also hosts live performances inspired by classic tunes of the ‘50s and ‘60s – perfect to cruise to! Additionally, the event often has contests and activities going on throughout the day where you can win prizes! Not bad for an event that’s totally free. That’s right, there’s no admission costs, so there’s nothing stopping you from getting out for an afternoon of fun, food, and fast cars!
We absolutely love Cruisin’ On Dearborn, it’s just too bad it only comes around once a month. The event will be live again next Saturday, June 2nd, so if you’ll be staying with us, make sure you don’t miss out! If not, don’t worry, the Cruisin’ On Dearborn Car Show recurs the first Saturday of every month, so you’ll more than likely get an opportunity to catch one. For more information on Cruisin’ On Dearborn, click here, or check out this video put together by an attendee of the event.
